Ello and welcome to the Slut Strand Society.

My name is Elsa and I am the Party Captain of this here society. I was born and raised in Crested Butte inside of my mum’s ski shop Butte & Co. In that shop I discovered that my true passion was within the Ski & Snowboard circus of an Industry.  I went off to college (go Rams) and learned the ins and outs of designing technical outerwear- especially for the ladieeeeez! I designed a couple lines for clothing for my buds at Icelantic Skis, designed some Phunkshun face masks, Kinco mittens, some siiiick kits at Spyder, and maintained my position of lead buyer for B&C. I make custom denim jackets, paint a lot, draw a lot, and embroider better than your own grandmum. But, my pride and joy of my entire design career is this: The Slut Strand Society.

The birth of the Slut Strand Society was a complete accident. My dad owns an embroidery shop back home and, while I was waiting for my oil to get changed and decided it would be fun to go hang at the shop. He had a box of sample beanies sitting on the ground and out of sheer boredom I decided to embroider them. I had just gone skiing so I was a bit of a mess. My dad, being a dad, looked at me and said “Sick Slut Strands, girl.” (He’s hip)  I shot back with a “Le Duh, I am the captain of the Slut Strand Society.” Boom. I knew what was going on that stack of beanies. The next day I popped em on the gram, sold them out and minutes, and the Society was born.

The Slut Strand Society is more than just hats, pins, etc. It is made to be a platform where two simple strands of hair pull people into community. A community where everyone is welcomed to the party. For years the term “Slut Strand” has held a negative connotation in skiing and snowboarding, yet, it remained to be a term we used every day. So, why not embrace it, re-claim it, celebrate it. The Slut Strand Society at its core is here to celebrate the ladies of skiing and snowboarding and give us a space end our division and band together. Girls are f*ckin’ cool, okay? So, kiss goodbye the “ski hoes”, the “pro hoes”, and all of that BS. We are far better than that and have the ability to create a Society that is both uplifting and cool as all shit.

So cheers, welcome, and we are genuinely happy you’re here.

XOX,

Els

Slut Strand (N.) : Commonly used by the ladies of skiing & snowboarding to express femininity under all dat gear. No, they do not make someone a slut. And no, we do not support slut shaming. They are of comparable importance to your bindings themselves, a true staple to the lifestyle. We’re here to embrace em.
